Buying a used accordion can be a daunting experience, especially when buying online. Entry to mid-level quality accordions can require maintenance service every few years and high-quality accordions every decade or two depending on how they are cared for (excluding upper-level petosa models which may last 4-5 decades before needing service). The environment in which the instrument has lived, how it was played, how long it has been stored are just a few factors that seriously impact and accordion’s value. The majority of accordions in the used market, from many retailers included, are sold in ‘as-is’ condition. Offering an accordion ‘as-is’ can allow a seller to offer a $2,000 accordion, for example, for $200 since there has been minimal to no service investment made. Once purchased, this $200 accordion will likely need hundreds if not thousands of dollars worth of service (if suggested maintenance above was not completed). At petosa, you can leave all the worrying up to us as our Certified Pre-owned Accordions come delivered with all reconditioning services completed. Our Certification process ensures that all pre-owned accordions have undergone necessary service that may be as follows:
Mechanical Service: this can and typically does include treble keyboard overhaul or service, bass mechanism overhaul or service, register mechanism service, bellow gasket replacement or service, treble and bass valve replacement or service, bellows inspection/service and more.
Acoustic Service: this can and typically does include reed tuning, reed leather service, reed tongue gapping/positioning, and replacing any said materials if and when necessary.
Cosmetic Service: this can and typically does include thorough cleaning of keys, buttons, baseboard, inside treble grille, inside bass mechanism, bellows folds, remove surface scratches and clean/buff/shine exterior body.
Warranty: all Certified instruments come with an extended warranty that covers all issues that may have been missed. Each instrument has its own warranty period based off of quality and age. All Certified Pre-owned petosa & Giulietti accordions come with a 3 year warranty period.
Accessories Included: Certified Pre-owned petosa & Giulietti accordions come with new shoulder straps and often back pads & bass straps (if applicable). Certified Pre-owned Piano, Chromatic, and Diatonic accordions come with the original case and good-condition shoulder & bass straps (back pad if applicable).
